Creation & Instalation

Once everyone is happy with the shape, form, detail and materials chosen for the new furniture or interior, making begins. It is off to the timber yard to sort through piles of timber to find the right pieces, pick up sheet materials, order hardware and make any jigs that might be required. There are many steps whilst making and each one can reveal a detail that needs improvement, a compositional change to achieve a more visually satisfying conclusion, technical changes due to a joint that is not strong enough, components that can't be worked due to machining or tool constraints. In the making process it is important to be open to the unexpected opportunity presented by mistakes and new information, another person’s point of view and a certain amount of objectivity. It is very hard to see the big picture when you are stood inside the frame of reference and infatuated with your own creative genius.

Construction

It is one of the main pleasures of the creative process is when from a stack of parts an idea emerges. It is also a time of anxiety, you are not sure if it looks any good, fortunately most times tenacity and faith win out and only once the piece has been polished are you in a position to really make a final judgment. At this stage with a one-off lessons that can be learned are noted and the piece is delivered to the raptures of a delighted client. With a production item prototype one is followed by prototype two, three, four and in some famous cases hundreds.

Completed

Clients are encouraged to visit the workshop and view the work in progress so that they can see the detailed and precise craftsmanship which goes into bespoke furniture, and feel involved in its creation. Alternatively follow its progress by digital images sent via E mail. When the piece is complete the commission will be delivered personally, at a time convenient to you. Where applicable your piece of furniture will be fitted to ensure everything is just as it should be. We will also provide you with a “Care & Attention” leaflet outlining the best way to look after and prolong the life of your piece.
