Edward Prince Furniture Design - Profile

 

Born in Otley, England the North Yorkshire hometown of the worlds most famous furniture designer, Thomas Chippendale. Edward trained at Jakob Kramer College of Art Leeds, Rycotewood College of Fine Craftsmanship. and the University of West Midlands, Birmingham. Professional practice began working for corporate interior design consultants Business Design Group then as furniture designer for upholstered furniture manufacturer Coloroll before establishing his own workshop and studio designing and making one off designer furniture and limited edition accessories as well as antique restoration and French polishing.

Emigrating to New Zealand in 1994 Edward worked for New Zealand's largest furniture manufacturer Criterion Furniture. This was followed by design projects for various architects, interior designers, manufacturers and retailers before becoming a lecturer in furniture making and three-dimensional design at Unitec. During this period intense personal study culminated in receiving a Masters degree in Design Management, writing a thesis on the development of creativity in three dimensional design.

Edward has now taken this vast wealth of practical and creative skills to offer a unique service to commercial and residential clients. Designing and creating beautiful three dimensional objects either as one off "art" pieces or batch produced furnishings. Edward personally makes all the pieces and works in conjunction with an extensive network of artisans and producers who have a detailed knowledge of timbers, metals and plastics,. Ideas can be transformed into an interior accessory, a large scale interior design or ranges of mass produced furniture.
